However, it has some limitations &#8211; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, Virtual machine scale sets are not currently supported on dedicated hosts.<\/li><li>Also, The sizes and hardware types available for dedicated hosts vary by region.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"create-a-host-group\"><strong>Create a host group in Portal <\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A host group is a\u00a0new resource that represents a group of dedicated hosts. In a region and an availability zone, you construct a host group and add hosts to it. There are extra possibilities when preparing for high availability. With your dedicated hosts, you can employ one or all of the following options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, Span across multiple availability zones<\/li><li>Secondly, Span across multiple fault domains which are mapped to physical racks<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example, we will create a host group using 1 availability zone and 2 fault domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open the Azure&nbsp;portal.<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Create a resource<\/strong>&nbsp;in the upper left corner.<\/li><li>Search for&nbsp;<strong>Host group<\/strong>&nbsp;and then select&nbsp;<strong>Host Groups<\/strong>&nbsp;from the results.<\/li><li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Host Groups<\/strong>&nbsp;page, select&nbsp;<strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select the subscription you would like to use, and then select&nbsp;<strong>Create new<\/strong>&nbsp;to create a new resource group.<\/li><li>Type&nbsp;<em>myDedicatedHostsRG<\/em>&nbsp;as the&nbsp;<strong>Name<\/strong>&nbsp;and then select&nbsp;<strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li><li>For&nbsp;<strong>Host group name<\/strong>, type&nbsp;<em>myHostGroup<\/em>.<\/li><li>Subsequently, For&nbsp;<strong>Location<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>East US<\/strong>.<\/li><li>For&nbsp;<strong>Availability Zone<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>1<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Also, For&nbsp;<strong>Fault domain count<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>2<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Review + create<\/strong>&nbsp;and then wait for validation.<\/li><li>Once you see the&nbsp;<strong>Validation passed<\/strong>&nbsp;message, select&nbsp;<strong>Create<\/strong>&nbsp;to create the host group.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating the host group should just take a few seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"create-a-dedicated-host\"><strong>Create a dedicated host<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the host group, now make a dedicated host. It is necessary to provide the SKU for the host in addition to a name. Host SKU records the available VM series as well as the hardware generation for your dedicated host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you establish a fault domain count for your host group, you will be prompted to specify the fault domain for your host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Create a resource<\/strong>&nbsp;in the upper left corner.<\/li><li>Search for&nbsp;<strong>Dedicated host<\/strong>&nbsp;and then select&nbsp;<strong>Dedicated hosts<\/strong>&nbsp;from the results.<\/li><li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Dedicated Hosts<\/strong>&nbsp;page, select&nbsp;<strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select the subscription you would like to use.<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<em>myDedicatedHostsRG<\/em>&nbsp;as the&nbsp;<strong>Resource group<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In&nbsp;<strong>Instance details<\/strong>, type&nbsp;<em>myHost<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Name<\/strong>&nbsp;and select&nbsp;<em>East US<\/em>&nbsp;for the location.<\/li><li>In&nbsp;<strong>Hardware profile<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<em>Standard Es3 family &#8211; Type 1<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Size family<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<em>myHostGroup<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Host group<\/strong>&nbsp;and then select&nbsp;<em>1<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Fault domain<\/strong>. Leave the defaults for the rest of the fields.<\/li><li>When it is done, select&nbsp;<strong>Review + create<\/strong>&nbsp;and wait for validation.<\/li><li>Once you see the&nbsp;<strong>Validation passed<\/strong>&nbsp;message, select&nbsp;<strong>Create<\/strong>&nbsp;to create the host.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"create-a-vm\"><strong>Create a VM in Portal <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Choose&nbsp;<strong>Create a resource<\/strong>&nbsp;in the upper left-hand corner of the Azure portal.<\/li><li>In the&nbsp;<strong>New<\/strong>&nbsp;page, under&nbsp;<strong>Popular<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<strong>Windows Server 2016 Datacenter<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Basics<\/strong>&nbsp;tab, under&nbsp;<strong>Project details<\/strong>, make sure the correct subscription is selected and then select&nbsp;<em>myDedicatedHostsRG<\/em>&nbsp;as the&nbsp;<strong>Resource group<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Under&nbsp;<strong>Instance details<\/strong>, type&nbsp;<em>myVM<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Virtual machine name<\/strong>&nbsp;and choose&nbsp;<em>East US<\/em>&nbsp;for your&nbsp;<strong>Location<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In&nbsp;<strong>Availability options<\/strong>&nbsp;select&nbsp;<strong>Availability zone<\/strong>, select&nbsp;<em>1<\/em>&nbsp;from the drop-down.<\/li><li>For the size, select&nbsp;<strong>Change size<\/strong>. In the list of available sizes, choose one from the Esv3 series, like&nbsp;<strong>Standard E2s v3<\/strong>. You may need to clear the filter in order to see all of the available sizes.<\/li><li>Under&nbsp;<strong>Administrator account<\/strong>, provide a username, such as&nbsp;<em>azureuser<\/em>&nbsp;and a password. The password must be at least 12 characters long and meet the&nbsp;defined complexity requirements.<\/li><li>Under&nbsp;<strong>Inbound port rules<\/strong>, choose&nbsp;<strong>Allow selected ports<\/strong>&nbsp;and then select&nbsp;<strong>RDP (3389)<\/strong>&nbsp;from the drop-down.<\/li><li>At the top of the page, select the&nbsp;<strong>Advanced<\/strong>&nbsp;tab and in the&nbsp;<strong>Host<\/strong>&nbsp;section, select&nbsp;<em>myHostGroup<\/em>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<strong>Host group<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>myHost<\/em>&nbsp;for the&nbsp;<strong>Host<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"885\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/advanced.png\" alt=\"How to Deploy VMs to dedicated hosts in portal?\" class=\"wp-image-14426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/advanced.png 885w, https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/advanced-750x155.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 885px) 100vw, 885px\" \/><figcaption>Image Source &#8211; Microsoft<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Leave the remaining defaults and then select the&nbsp;<strong>Review + create<\/strong>&nbsp;button at the bottom of the page.<\/li><li>When you see the message that validation has passed, select&nbsp;<strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"add-an-existing-vm\"><strong>Add an existing VM<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow these procedures to add an existing virtual machine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open the page for the VM.<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Stop<\/strong>&nbsp;to stop\\deallocate the VM.<\/li><li>Then, Select&nbsp;<strong>Configuration<\/strong>&nbsp;from the left menu.<\/li><li>Select a host group and a host from the drop-down menus.<\/li><li>When this is done, select&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>&nbsp;at the top of the page.<\/li><li>After the VM is added to the host, select&nbsp;<strong>Overview<\/strong>&nbsp;from the left menu.<\/li><li>At the top of the page, select&nbsp;<strong>Start<\/strong>&nbsp;to restart the VM.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"check-the-status-of-the-host\"><strong>Check the status of the host<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to know how much capacity is still available, you may check the status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Portal:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Search for and choose the host.<\/li><li>Scroll down the host&#8217;s Overview page to see the list of sizes that are still available. It should resemble the following:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/virtual-machines\/media\/dedicated-hosts-portal\/host-status.png\" alt=\"Check the available capacity of the host from the overview page for the host.\"\/><figcaption><strong>Source: Microsoft<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deleting-hosts\"><strong>Deleting hosts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if no virtual machines are installed, you will be paid for your dedicated hosts. To save money, you should eliminate any hosts you aren&#8217;t utilizing right now.
