With Azure Firewall, you can configure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, application rules that state fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) that can be accessed from a subnet.<\/li><li>Secondly, network rules that define source address, protocol, destination port, and destination address.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is recommended to use a hub and spoke model for&nbsp; production deployments. However, the workload servers are in peered VNets in the same region with one or more subnets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>AzureFirewallSubnet<\/strong> &#8211; the firewall is in this subnet.<\/li><li><strong>Workload-SN<\/strong> &#8211; the workload server is part of this subnet.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"273\" height=\"369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/az500-docs-21.png\" alt=\"Azure Firewall\" class=\"wp-image-16711\"\/><figcaption><strong>Image Source: Microsoft<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Setting up the network<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, create a resource group to contain the resources necessary for deploying the firewall. After that, create a VNet, subnets, and a test server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a resource group<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, sign in to the Azure portal at https:\/\/portal.azure.com.<\/li><li>Secondly, on the Azure portal menu, select Resource groups or search for and select Resource groups from any page. Then select Add.<\/li><li>Then, for the Resource group name, enter Test-FW-RG.<\/li><li>And, for Subscription, select your subscription.<\/li><li>After that, for Resource group location, select a location.\u00a0<\/li><li>Lastly, select Create.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/microsoft-azure-security-technologies-az-500-free-practice-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/AZ_500-practice-tests-8.png\" alt=\"AZ-500 practice tests\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a VNet<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This VNet will contain three subnets.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, on the Azure portal menu or from the Home page, select Create a resource.<\/li><li>Then, select Networking &gt; Virtual network.<\/li><li>Thirdly, for Subscription, select your subscription. For the Resource group, select Test-FW-RG. Then, for Name, type Test-FW-VN. And,&nbsp; for Region, select the same location that you used previously.<\/li><li>After that, select Next: IP addresses.<\/li><li>Then, for IPv4 Address space, type 10.0.0.0\/16.<\/li><li>Under Subnet, select default.<\/li><li>Next, for the Subnet name type AzureFirewallSubnet. Withthis, the firewall will be in this subnet, and the subnet name must be AzureFirewallSubnet.<\/li><li>Then, for Address range, type 10.0.1.0\/26.<\/li><li>Lasty, select Save.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a virtual machine<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s create the workload virtual machine, and place it in the Workload-SN subnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, on the Azure portal menu or from the Home page, select Create a resource.<\/li><li>Secondly, select Compute and then select Virtual machine.<\/li><li>Thirdly, windows Server 2016 Datacenter in the Featured list.<\/li><li>Then, enter these values for the virtual machine:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"716\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/az500-docs-22.png\" alt=\"Creating VM in Azure Firewall\" class=\"wp-image-16712\"\/><figcaption><strong>Image Source: Microsoft<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fifthly, under Inbound port rules, Public inbound ports, select None.<\/li><li>After that, accept the other defaults and select Next: Disks.<\/li><li>Then, accept the disk defaults and select Next: Networking. However, make sure that Test-FW-VN is selected for the virtual network and the subnet is Workload-SN.<\/li><li>And, for Public IP, select None. Then, accept the other defaults and select Next: Management.<\/li><li>After that, select Off to disable boot diagnostics. Then, accept the other defaults and select Review + create.<\/li><li>Lastly, review the settings on the summary page, and then select Create.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deploying the firewall<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For deploying the firewall into the VNet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, on the Azure portal menu or from the Home page, select Create a resource.<\/li><li>Secondly, type firewall in the search box and press Enter.<\/li><li>Then, select Firewall and then select Create.<\/li><li>Fourthly, on the Create a Firewall page, use the following table to configure the firewall:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"771\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/az500-docs-23.png\" alt=\"Deploying Azure Firewall\" class=\"wp-image-16713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/az500-docs-23.png 771w, https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/az500-docs-23-750x350.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 771px) 100vw, 771px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Image Source: Microsoft<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Then, select Review + create.<\/li><li>After that, review the summary, and then select Create to create the firewall.<\/li><li>And, when the deployment completes, go to the Test-FW-RG resource group, and select the Test-FW01 firewall.<\/li><li>Lastly, note the firewall private and public IP addresses. You&#8217;ll use these addresses later.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Configuring an application rule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This refers to the application rule that allows outbound access to www.google.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, open the Test-FW-RG, and select the Test-FW01 firewall.<\/li><li>Secondly, on the Test-FW01 page, under Settings, select Rules.<\/li><li>Thirdly, select the Application rule collection tab.<\/li><li>Fourthly, select Add application rule collection.<\/li><li>Then, for Name, type App-Coll01. For Priority, type 200 and for Action, select Allow.<\/li><li>After that, under Rules, Target FQDNs, for Name, type Allow-Google.<\/li><li>Then, For Source type, select IP address, for Source, type 10.0.2.0\/24, for Protocol:port, type http, https and for Target FQDNS, type www.google.com<\/li><li>Lastly, select Add.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring a network rule<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This refers to the network rule that allows outbound access to two IP addresses at port 53 (DNS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, select the Network rule collection tab.<\/li><li>Secondly, select Add network rule collection.<\/li><li>Then, for Name, type Net-Coll01, for Priority, type 200 and for Action, select Allow.<\/li><li>After that, under Rules, IP addresses, for Name, type Allow-DNS, for Protocol, select UDP, for Source type, select IP address and for Source, type 10.0.2.0\/24. Further, for Destination type select IP address and for Destination address, type 209.244.0.3,209.244.0.4<\/li><li>Lastly, for Destination Ports, type 53 and select Add.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Changing the primary and secondary DNS address for the Srv-Work network interface<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For testing purposes in this tutorial, configure the server&#8217;s primary and secondary DNS addresses. This isn&#8217;t a general Azure Firewall requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, on the Azure portal menu, select Resource groups or search for and select Resource groups from any page. Select the Test-FW-RG resource group.<\/li><li>Secondly, select the network interface for the Srv-Work virtual machine.<\/li><li>Thirdly, under Settings, select DNS servers.<\/li><li>Then, under DNS servers, select Custom.<\/li><li>After that, type 209.244.0.3 in the Add DNS server text box, and 209.244.0.4 in the next text box.<\/li><li>Lastly, select Save and restart the Srv-Work virtual machine.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Testing the firewall<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For testing the firewall:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, connect a remote desktop to firewall public IP address and sign in to the Srv-Work virtual machine.<\/li><li>Secondly, open Internet Explorer and browse to https:\/\/www.google.com.<\/li><li>Thirdly, select OK &gt; Close on the Internet Explorer security alerts.<\/li><li>After that, browse to https:\/\/www.microsoft.com.
