As we create data models<\/em>\u00a0in Power BI Desktop, we plan to create datasets\u00a0that we can distribute in the Power BI service. Besides, other report creators can also use these datasets as a basis for their own reports.\u00a0We will now discuss the steps to shared datasets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steps to Shared Datasets<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. Firstly, we start by creating a .pbix file with a data model in the Power BI Desktop. So, if you are planning to offer this dataset for others to build reports, you may not even design a report in the .pbix file.<\/li>
  2. Secondly, publish the .pbix file to a\u00a0new workspace experience\u00a0in the Power BI service.<\/li>
  3. Thirdly, we can also\u00a0publish an app\u00a0from this workspace. When you do, on the\u00a0Permissions<\/strong>\u00a0page, you specify who has permissions and what they can do.<\/li>
  4. Lastly, select\u00a0Publish app<\/strong>, or\u00a0Update app<\/strong>\u00a0if it’s already published.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    For shared dataset in workspace, we may need to know what reports in other workspaces are based on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Firstly, in the Datasets list view, select\u00a0View related<\/strong>.<\/li>
    2. Secondly, the\u00a0Related content<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box shows all related items. In this list, we see the related items in this workspace and in\u00a0Other workspaces<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
