Moreover, a gateway can be used for a single data source or multiple data sources. In general, many data sources management operations can be performed by using APIs also.\u00a0We shall now illustrate the steps used in managing data source including adding and removing a data source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Managing Data Source &#8211; Steps to Add a Data Source<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, from the page header in the Power BI service, select\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong> \u00a0>\u00a0<strong>Manage gateways<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Secondly, select a gateway and then select\u00a0<strong>Add data source<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Then, you can select the header text\u00a0<strong>ADD DATA SOURCE<\/strong>\u00a0or hover your cursor next to the gateway entry to reveal the more options menu.<\/li><li>Next, Assign a name to your data source, then select the\u00a0<strong>Data Source Type<\/strong>. <\/li><li>Now, enter information about the data source. For SQL Server, provide the\u00a0<strong>Server<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Database<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Further, Select an\u00a0<strong>Authentication Method<\/strong>\u00a0to use when connecting to the data source. For SQL Server, choose\u00a0<strong>Windows<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Basic<\/strong>\u00a0(SQL Authentication). <\/li><li>Enter the credentials for your data source.<\/li><li>Thereafter, under\u00a0<strong>Advanced settings<\/strong>, you could configure\u00a0Single Sign-On (SSO)\u00a0for your data source.<\/li><li>Following <strong>Advanced settings<\/strong>, optionally configure the\u00a0privacy level\u00a0for your data source.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Steps to Remove Data Source<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u00a0can remove a data source if it is no longer in use. The process of removing a data source breaks any dashboards and reports that rely on that data source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, to remove a data source, go to the data source and then select\u00a0<strong>Remove<\/strong>\u00a0from the more options menu. <\/li><li>Then, the more options menu appears when you hover your cursor next to the data source name.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Managing User<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once we add a data source to a gateway, we give users email-enabled security groups access to the specific data source. The access list for the data source controls only who is allowed to publish reports that include data from the data source.
