Also, it may contain headers and a row for totals. Tables work well with quantitative comparisons when you&#8217;re required to analyze many values for one category.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When to use a Table?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, to see and compare detailed data and exact values (instead of visual representations).<\/li><li>Secondly, to display data in a tabular format.<\/li><li>Lastly, to display numerical data by categories.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to create a table?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, from the\u00a0<strong>Fields<\/strong>\u00a0pane, select\u00a0<strong>Item<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<strong>Category<\/strong>. Note, Power BI creates a table automatically listing all the categories.<\/li><li>In the second step, select\u00a0<strong>Sales > Average Unit Price<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Sales > Last Year Sales<\/strong><\/li><li>Then select\u00a0<strong>Sales > This Year Sales<\/strong>\u00a0and select all three options:\u00a0<strong>Value<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Goal<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Status<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Now, in the\u00a0<strong>Visualizations<\/strong>\u00a0pane, locate the\u00a0<strong>Values<\/strong>\u00a0well and select the values until the order of your chart columns matches the first image on this page. <\/li><li>Lastly, drag the values in the well if needed.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Formatting the Tables<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed there are many ways to format a table, so open the\u00a0<strong>Format<\/strong>\u00a0pane (paint roller icon\u00a0) and explore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At first, use the formatting the table grid. Then add a blue vertical grid, add space to the rows, and increase the outline and text size.<\/li><li>Then for the column headers, change the background color, add an outline, and increase the font size.<\/li><li>Further, you can apply formatting to individual columns and column headers. Begin by expanding\u00a0<strong>Field formatting<\/strong>\u00a0and selecting the column to format from the drop-down.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conditional Formatting<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Conditional formatting\u00a0is defined as one kind of formatting tables. Moreover, Power BI can apply conditional formatting to any of the fields that you added to the\u00a0<strong>Values<\/strong>\u00a0well of the\u00a0<strong>Visualizations<\/strong>\u00a0pane. Now, with conditional formatting for tables, you may also specify icons, URLs, font colors in cell values, and gradient colors. The steps to perform conditional formatting are &#8211; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, in the\u00a0<strong>Format<\/strong>\u00a0pane, open the\u00a0<strong>Conditional formatting<\/strong>\u00a0card<\/li><li>Secondly, select a field to format, and turn the slider for\u00a0<strong>Background color<\/strong>\u00a0to On. <\/li><li>Then , to change the default colors, select\u00a0<strong>Advanced controls<\/strong>. But if you are selecting the\u00a0<strong>Diverging<\/strong>\u00a0option, you can configure an optional\u00a0<strong>Center<\/strong>\u00a0value as well.<\/li><li>Next, add a new field to the table that has both positive and negative values. Select\u00a0<strong>Sales > Total Sales Variance<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Further, add data bar conditional formatting by turning the\u00a0<strong>Data bars<\/strong>\u00a0slider to On.<\/li><li>Now, to customize the data bars, select\u00a0<strong>Advanced controls<\/strong>.
