The hybrid model, on the other hand, creates identities in Windows Active Directory or another identity provider. After that, it&#8217;s synced with Azure AD. In the cloud-only architecture, however, identities are created in Azure AD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, users who access both on-premises and cloud apps are handled as hybrid users in the on-premises Active Directory. All changes to user accounts, groups, and contacts in your on-premises AD DS are synchronized to your Azure AD. When employing the hybrid paradigm, however, authentication may be done in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, Azure AD using&nbsp;<em>managed authentication<\/em>.<\/li><li>Secondly,  Azure AD redirecting the client requesting authentication to another identity provider using&nbsp;<em>federated authentication<\/em>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/exam-sc-900-microsoft-security-compliance-identity-fundamentals-free-practice-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/sc-900-tests.png\" alt=\"Practice tests concept of hybrid identities\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/learn\/wwl-sci\/explore-basic-services-identity-types\/media\/azure-active-directory-connect-expanded.png\" alt=\"Azure AD connect manages the synchronization to Azure Active Directory\"\/><figcaption><strong>Image Source: Microsoft<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Authentication Methods<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Three authentication methods are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, <strong>Password hash synchronization<\/strong>. The simplest way to enable authentication for on-premises directory objects in Azure AD. Users have the same username and password that they use on-premises without any other infrastructure required.<\/li><li>Secondly, <strong>Pass-through authentication (PTA)<\/strong>. Provides a simple password validation for Azure AD authentication services by using a software agent. This can run on one or more on-premises servers. The servers validate the users directly with an on-premises Active Directory, which ensures that the password validation doesn&#8217;t happen in the cloud.<\/li><li>Lastly, <strong>Federated authentication<\/strong>.
