{"id":602,"date":"2019-02-19T10:14:04","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T10:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.com\/tutorial\/?page_id=602"},"modified":"2020-03-16T06:26:22","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T06:26:22","slug":"exceptions-accommodations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.testpreptraining.ai\/tutorial\/exceptions-accommodations\/","title":{"rendered":"Exceptions &#038; Accommodations"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>There are exceptions and modifications to those who qualify to the naturalization requirements that are available.\u00a0For individuals with disabilities accommodations are also provided by the USCIS.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the English Language Exemptions for US Citizenship Test? <\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Applicant is Exempt from The English Language Requirement, but is still required to take The Civics Test If one is:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>At the time of filing for naturalization, age is 50 or older and has lived as a permanent resident i.e. a green card holder in the United States for 20 years (commonly referred to as the \u201c50\/20\u201d exception).<br \/>OR<\/li>\r\n<li>At the time of filing for naturalization, age is 55 or older and has lived as a permanent resident i.e. a green card holder in the United States for 15 years (commonly referred to as the \u201c55\/15\u201d exception).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Even if one qualifies for the \u201c50\/20\u201d or \u201c55\/15\u201d English language exceptions listed above, the applicant must still take the civics test.<\/li>\r\n<li>S\/he will be permitted to take the civics test in his\/her native language.<\/li>\r\n<li>If one takes the test in his\/her native language, one must bring an interpreter with him\/her to the interview.<\/li>\r\n<li>The interpreter must be fluent in both English and the applicant\u2019s native language.<\/li>\r\n<li>If the applicant\u2019s age is 65 or older and at the time of filing for naturalization has been a permanent resident for at least 20 years, s\/he will be given special consideration regarding the civics requirement.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Medical Disability Exceptions to English and Civics<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If one is unable to comply with these requirements because of a physical or developmental disability or a mental impairment, the applicant may be eligible for an exception to the English and civics naturalization requirements.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Submit\u00a0Form N-648, Medical Certification for Disability Exceptions, to request this exception. A licensed medical or osteopathic doctor or licensed clinical psychologist must complete this form.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Continuous Residence Exceptions<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If the applicant\u2019s engaged in certain kinds of overseas employment then one may be eligible for an exception to the continuous residence requirement<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Disability Accommodations<\/strong> Under\u00a0Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, USCIS provides accommodations or modifications for applicants with physical or mental impairments that make it difficult for them to complete the naturalization process.
